The Second Annual Big Catch Catfish Festival in Osceola Brings You Legendary Entertainment
OSCEOLA – The Osceola/South Mississippi County Chamber of Commerce is shooting for success with its Second Annual Big Catch catfish festival by bringing legendary entertainment once again to Sans Souci Park on the banks of the Mississippi River on the Saturday after Labor Day, September 7, 2013.
The Big Catch Catfish Festival will feature a 100% payout catfish tournament on the Mississippi River, riverboat rides, a Kids Fun Zone, food/beverage vendors, various contests with prizes, and a music stage with live entertainment.
The Big Catch will have many musical artists play throughout the day. Area bands established as fan favorites at the Big Catch Facebook site will face off at High Noon for the title of Champion during the Band Battle at Plum Run Bend, a fun commemoration of the historic Civil War naval battle fought on the Mississippi River at the site of Sans Souci Park.
Anglers from throughout the region will descend upon Sans Souci Park for a two-person team catfish tournament from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM with cash prizes for most weight of each team's three biggest fish, as well as cash prizes for biggest single fish.
Memphis Riverboats will be on hand to give festival goers the chance to experience the Mississippi River from the deck of one of their historic riverboats. Festival goers also can sample various culinary delights with Big Catch Catfish food vendors offering an assortment of Southern specialties. The Mighty Mississippi River Queen will be crowned as part of beauty pageant festivities beginning at 10 AM.
Advance tickets for the Big Catch are only $10 for general admission and $20 for reserved seating; $15 for general admission the week of the festival. Tickets are available online at www.arkansasbigcatch.eventbrite.com or at the Chamber offices. Kids under 10 will be admitted for free. Festival goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, but no food or beverages will be allowed. Because parking near the River will be limited, festival goers will park in designated areas with free shuttle transportation to and from Sans Souci Park provided.
